Stratford Resource Bins

Stratford Resource Bins are a project started by Kiera McMaster, a student in the Global Business and Digital Arts program on the University of Waterloo. After moving to the Stratford Campus, students lose the food security provided by the food bank on the Waterloo Campus. The project tackles that issue by providing free food and hygiene resources to students. I was lucky enough to design the logo for this amazing humanitarian effort.

Process

While this project was initially started with the intention of only serving students of Waterloo’s Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, the scope grew quickly. Student food insecurity was not only limited to the University of Waterloo, but other institutions in Stratford, such as the Stratford Chefs School. The logo had to be unique to the Stratford identity, but not exclusive to the Waterloo campus.

The swan was chosen as they are a common sight around Stratford, Ontario, and are even celebrated in a yearly parade. The bin is similar to the ones used by the program, and the orange colour tied the project back to its roots in the Waterloo campus, as orange was the colour for all arts programs.
